Numis is proud to introduce the sixth and final coin in the Royal Canadian Mint’s highly acclaimed Canadian Wildlife series, the 2013 Silver Wood Bison. Now in its third year of production, this spectacular series has featured reverse designs that are beautifully representative of Canada’s wildlife. Since its inception in 2010, the Royal Canadian Mint has released two coins annually in this exciting six-coin series.
The coin’s reverse depicts a truly majestic example of Canada’s abundant wildlife, the Canadian wood bison. Found throughout the mountainous and wooded regions of the Northwest Territories, Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba the wood bison is one of North Americas largest land mammals and has captured the imagination of all who have seen this majestic creature in its natural habitat. Driven to the brink if extinction by the early 20th century, the wood bison’s numbers have since rebounded thank to the conservation efforts of the Canadian government.
The coin’s obverse features acclaimed Canadian portrait artist Susanna Blunt’s effigy of her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of England. Struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver, this coin bears a face value of $5 and is part of an extremely limited mintage. The Royal Canadian Mint is exclusively responsible for the production and distribution of these coins and has placed a strict, low mintage on them. The demand for these pure silver coins has been unprecedented. If previous issues of this coin series are any indication, this Canadian Wood Bison silver coin will sell out very quickly, making your ownership of one (or more) even more impressive.
