Delle, Utah has been mostly abandoned – there’s still a working gas station and it is a popular place for riding motocross – but beyond that everything is fading away. There’s a motel, an old auto shop, buses, mobile homes and more.
I remember when I was a kid the town was for sale, I guess nobody grabbed it up.
Here’s some photos I took in 2019 just to document it before it fades away much more.
I spent many years out there in Delle, my family had BLM leases across from there since the 30s. I remember the OLD Delle, the buildings you have photos of are second generation believe it or not. There was an old Stucco building until the early 70s I think. My grandfather almost bought the place because it was cheap, but they were sheepherders and likely didn’t want to run a gas station. I always thought the place had potential, but not much out there still. Great memories of motorcycling and exploring mines. And finding old bottles in 100 year old garbage pits. If you look at google maps across and against the hill to the east, you can still see the shape of the old sheep pens that are laid out. There was a tin mining shack that we stayed in, with electricity until the mid 70s. All gone now, just the outlines of the bones in the sand.
