Robber’s Roost was a popular outlaw hideout located along the Outlaw Trail in Southeastern Utah. Sandwiched between the Colorado, Green and Dirty Devil Rivers, the roost is a savage stretch of land crisscrossed with steep-walled canyons, hidden ravines and flat top mountains. Due to the difficult terrain it served as a hideout for outlaws of every sort, including Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch. The refuge gain a reputation as being impenetrable and stories about it’s defense contributed to it’s legend. An intricate system of fortifications and a vast storehouse of supplies ensured few lawmen dared enter this dangerous area. The roost was largely abandoned about 1900 when Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid allegedly departed for South America.
