In 1902 this building was built for R. R. Irvine and Son (Robert R. and Robert R. Jr. – who was also vice-president of W. H. Ray and Co.) Dry Goods which occupied the lower floor. Charles Snyder and James Irvine, dentists, occupied the upper floor. R. R. Irvine and Son became .one of. Provo’s most prestigious and successful “Ladies Outfitters.”
This elegant two-story building has been reworked on the lower level – tile, metal and oversized signs clutter what was once a dignified front of three display windows and two slightly recessed entrances – all topped with transoms.
The upper façade with its three “bay” windows, ornamented cornice, and crowning metal eagle all essentially intact though dulled with green paint, which also hides the variegated brick. The numbers 1902 have been removed from the two ornamental circles.
In 1965 an addition was made at the rear and the following year the building was extensively remodeled.
