This is the only good example of Art Moderne style in the district. The two-story with mezzanine building retains the smooth tile façade, ornamented with string courses along the top, two curved metal canopies over each entrance.
The building is one of several built in the block in the 1930s. In 1937 Firmages Department Store (Edwin D. president; Edwin R. vice-president William R. secretary/treasurer) opened in their new building at 143-153 West Center. The business has continued in operation since then.
