Ira Allen House

Ira Allen House

The first frame house to be built in Hyrum was built by Ira Allen, Sr. in 1875. It had a framework of sawed 2×4’s. The sawed rafters were raised to about one-half pitch and covered with one-inch sheeting and then shingled. Ira’s sons planed white pine lumber made doors, door frames, window frames, and moldings for the new house. Planed red pine lumber was used for floors. In 1898, electric lights were added to the home.
