The building is significant as an excellent brick Victorian commercial building and as part of an unbroken streetscape of four intact facades.
Built in 1912, this store was historically known as the Lamont Building after Emma F. Lamont who operated a “Millinery and Ladies Ready-to-Wear Shop” there. The building also housed Squire’s Jewelry and Flowers.
In 1939 Dr. G.B. Madsen purchased the building and installed hospital equipment, The current owner, Alan Beck, mayor of Mt. Pleasant, purchased the building in 1977 and operates an appliance store there.
140 West Main Street in Mt Pleasant, Utah
The largest building of a group of four, the Lamont Building is divided into two bays by plain brick pilasters, with a large elliptically arched second floor window in each bay. The recessed central entrance on the first floor is not symmetrical with the windows above, but is offset to allow for a door to the second floor at the east end of the facade. Unusual brick corbelling frames the parapet wall.
A metal canopy and wood paneling over the transom windows on both floors are the only facade changes.
