The Chapman Branch Library is important for its architectural and educational significance, as well as being the city’s only Carnegie Foundation-founded library. Built as a Carnegie library in 1918, with the funding of $25,000, this one-and-one-half story, L-shaped, brick building with Classical revival detailing was designed by prominent Utah architect Don Carlos Young and built by the Ashton Improvement Company. The library was named after Annie E. Chapman, who served as the first librarian of the Salt Lake City Public Library System. The library stands out visually in this residential neighborhood of the city.
