findagrave tells of Jacob Moritz being born in Bavaria in 1849 and immigrating to Montana and then Utah, he started breweries and saloons and became extremely successful.

He had a large brewery at 1000 E 500 S in Salt Lake City, it was multiple large majestic buildings that were an impressive skyline and the railroad went right through it. There isn’t much left of that now, the building that is now the Anniversary Inn is the most prominent remaining part of the brewery.

utahstories has a cool article explaining how the Salt Lake Brewing Company was one of the largest breweries outside Wisconsin back in the 1890’s, producing 100,000 barrels of beer every year.
