In Loving Memory of our Grandparents
David Hutton
(Jan 20, 1871 – Aug 20, 1946)
& Maria Morse Anderson
(May 27, 1875 – Aug 22, 1917)
(Married Oct. 28, 1896)
Who, upon this plot of ground, built a house and gave birth to our parents and provided for us a rich heritage stemming from their parents Archibald King and Hannah Acomb Anderson who came here from Scotland and Richard and Maria Jones Morse who came here from Wales. From these two great cultural backgrounds and examples we inherited the will to work and accomplish while providing for our families and gaining a love of music and the arts for which they shared a common interest. Our hope is that we may bring honor to them by rightfully fulfilling the prophecy… “by their fruits ye shall know them.”
(MATTHEW 7:20)
The Grandchildren of D.H. and Maria

The Home of David and Maria Anderson
In this home were born twelve children in the same bed and bedroom (the room to the left above). They were our parents who grew to become remarkable examples of industry, thrift and goodness. We cherish our memories of and respect for them and the sacrifices they made to make our lives possible. This monument sits within the concrete curb representing the shape of the house.

David and Maria had a courtship that began in 1892 and culminated in their marriage in 1896. During those courtship years David was a Sheep herder while accumulating his own herd of sheep. Maria was working as a law clerks Their plan was to establish a financial base upon which to build the home on this site and purchase other lands to farm. This plan came to fruition and David became a very successful sheep rancher owning several other properties, the most notable of which was his ranch to the west in the Samaria Hills, known as Squirrel Town.
Lovers of music, they were both involved in vocal and instrumental music. Their twelve children and the community were blessed with their service as Maria played and taught the piano and David conducted the choir. Their life was focused on sheep ranching and the family was reared on this experience while being given a firm foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We, their grandchildren, honor them and our parents by dedicating this, their homesite on this 31st day of July, 1999 as a perpetual memorial to the heritage they left for us.
“We are his people and the sheep of his pasture.” Psalms 100.3
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that we honor the names and lives of our parents and grandparents whose years of toil and sacrifice gave us the foundation to develop our own lives and families.
Listed here in order of birth are the fifty grandchildren who were born to the twelve children of David H and Maria Anderson.
