This one story temple form Greek revival style structure has a carved stone inscription over the doorway that includes a compass, square, beehive, and building date. These features lead some to believe the building was used as an early endowment house, a sacred building where lds church rites are performed. However, there is no conclusive proof the building was used this way. What is not disputed is the building was built by the relief society and sold to the spring city school district in 1878. It was commonly referred to as the allred school after John frank allred, a teacher for 26 years who remained at the school until 1899. The building was purchased and restored by artist randall lake in 1982 with funds he received from painting the official portrait of wyoming’s governor.
