Anderson’s Garage
This one-story brick building with flat roof and large display windows has a façade of tile—the color of which and the ornamental center detail created out of indicates Art Deco treatment.
A one-story with basement addition was built at the rear in 1925.
A sign now obscures the center detail and another sign obscures the tile.
This building was one of the first built in this area to serve the booming automobile: industry. It was built by Andrew E. Anderson as his brothers Hyrum U. and Nels who had incorporated as the Andersen’s Garage and Machine Company. Andrew had operated an automobile repair business at 105 West Center, taught auto mechanics at BYU. He continued as entrepreneur—operating the Anderson saw mill in the strawberry Valley (1922) and the Provo Sand and Gravel Co. (1926) . His son Dean, the current owner, continued the family business.
