The building was greatly altered in the late 1940s„ both inside and out to accommodate the change in type of business from machine shop to beauty college. The upper brick façade is covered with large metal sign board type sign.
In 1948 an addition was made at the rear.
In 1974 the interior was remodeled, ceilings lowered, walls paneled.

This building was built for one of several automobile-related businesses which started in this area in the 1920s.
About 1923 Verner A. Powell and his brother John F. incorporated as Fowell Brothers Auto and Machine Shop and opened their business in this building they had built for the purpose.
The building has been highly altered.
