Henry & Emily Ware Home
Henry J. & Emily Ware purchased their property in the late spring of 1887 and built their home that summer. Henry was a local builder who worked for himself, except for a brief partnership in 1890-91 with fellow builder Israel S. Lampman. Emily died, probably toward the beginning of 1898. Henry married his second wife (Jennie) and moved to Evanston, Wyoming. Henry sold the home to a local merchant, James Spargo, who sold it 6 months later to Perry C. Westover, a railroad freight inspector.
This small picturesque cottage is unique as it is one of the few remaining examples of this common folkhouse tradition. This home is representative of the rural architecture of the late 19th century which became absorbed by Ogden’s expanding boundaries and development. These small cottage homes were a dominant feature of Ogden’s built environment at that time and few remain so well preserved.
