The city of Cottonwood Heights has designated with signs some of the old historic areas/neighborhoods. See this others on this page.
Butler Bench was the high area south of Big Cottonwood Canyon Creek, from the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon west to the top of the hill at about 2700 East. It is literally a geological bench on which the main part of the city, which was known as Butler, was located.

Great site. I’ve also been enjoying your Instagram account. Thanks for documenting so much local history.
I was walking down Fort Union Blvd the other day and I noticed that a “Historic Butler” sign in front of the LDS chapel at about 2700 East says “Settled Circa 1836.” That made me do a double-take. I see that another “Historic Butler” sign you have posted a picture of says “Settled Circa 1869,” which has to be closer to the truth. How do think that “1836” made it onto a sign?
