573 3rd Avenue

This one-story home was built of adobe and brick in the Victorian Eclectic style circa 1884. A two room brick addition on the west was built in 1893. A brick addition on the north was built prior to 1911, and another brick addition on the north was completed in 2020.

The architectural elements consistent with a Victorian Eclectic style include an ornate stained glass window in the upper sash at the columned, asymmetrical entry porch, transom windows above exterior and interior doors, and tall and narrow double-hung windows.

James Orson Ellerbeck, a blacksmith, and his wife Clara Brown Ellerbeck were the original owners of the house. James was proprietor of the Bay Horse Shoeing Shop located downtown at 65 Plum Alley.
