271 4th Avenue

This Victorian Eclectic style house was built in 1891 for Helena (Lena) Brown as a wedding gift from her father, William D. Brown. Lena and her husband, William G. Romney, were married in the home and lived here until their deaths in 1955 and 1931, respectively. William G. Romney was involved in the printing business, serving as co-founder and president of Romney & Ryan (later Century Printing company), which owned the first linotype machine in the area. After William’s death, Mrs. Romney took over as vice-president and treasurer of the company.
