Harris-Tingey House
This house was probably built by Charles Duncan, noted local stonemason, and John J. Harris, a carpenter, c.1867 for Thomas H. and Caroline Harris. In 1908 the property was deeded to Alzina Call Tingey.
Alzina was born in Iowa in 1848. She and Thomas Tingey, born in England in 1844, were married in 1863. Thomas, a farmer who owned one of the first threshing machines in the area and a fine team of horses, threshed grain for all the local farmers. Later in life he delivered mail until his death in 1912. Alzina, a midwife and an excellent cook, was also a member and president of the local LDS Relief Society for thirty years. The couple had eleven sons and one daughter. After all the children were married, Thomas and Alzina moved to this house in 1908. Within a year they were raising four of their grandchildren. After Alzina’s death in 1927, their daughter, Nettie Linge, occupied the home. She later sold it to William and Sylvia Tingey.
