Located at 420 North Oakley Street in the Fairpark Neighborhood in Salt Lake City, Utah.
From Preservation Utah‘s Fairpark Homes Tour:
This home might be characterized as an “Early Ranch,” a precursor to the even larger Modern Ranch homes that would become common later in the 1950s and 1960s. Note the elongated brick that emphasizes the home’s horizontality – and length. Note, too, the attached garage that would become an essential element in post-war houses. Built in 1952 for Lyman and Lynette Leavitt, this home reflects how houses grew increasingly long following World War II. Lyman O. Leavitt was an avid outdoorsman. He was a builder, inventor, and entrepreneur. He built many boats and was the founder and co-owner of Anchor Boat and Steel Company. He also co-founded the Gulfstream Boat Company, a manufacturer of fiberglass boats. While living in this home, he was racing boats and won several trophies.
