Some history from Mary Monroe Shumway:
This garage was owned by a man named Ken Olsen. He ran the gas station and was a mechanic. Next door to the service station was a café which the family ran as well and the family lived in the back and there was an upstairs. The highway (Hwy 91) ran through Scipio until about 1959 so there were a number of gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores in a little town. Scipio also had a large hotel. Highway 91 was the highway between Nephi and Fillmore. In 1959 they moved the highway and it then ran south of town where I-15 is now. From about 1930 – 1960 Scipio saw a lot of travelers. People would also go to Highway 89 from Scipio. In about 1945 Scipio also had about 700 people living there and by about 1960 there were about 350.

Ken Olsen’s daughter Virga married Irvin Monroe. The station and café were later were owned by Irvin and Virga Monroe and their sons Jack, Neil and Dix. When I grew up they used the garage to fix their farm equipment and the gas pumps to provide fuel for farm equipment. So it hasn’t been operational for quite sometime.
