In the 1880s S.S. Jones of Provo selected Mill Fork in Spanish Fork Canyon as the site of his charcoal kilns where he would produce charcoal to send to the Murray Smelter at the Horn Silver Mine in the Frisco, Utah area. He did so well that in 1886 he decided to purchase the 9 McCoy and McAllister (M & M) kilns and work those as well, they were location 4 miles farther up Spanish Fork Canyon. Both sites were located near the railroad, on the north side of the railroad and neither exist now.
