J. C. Penney Company, JCPenney, originally the Golden Rule Store is a department store with at one point 1,600 stores in 49 states.

In 1898 James Cash Penney went to work for Thomas Callahan and Guy Johnson and their Golden Rule dry goods stores, in 1902 he opened a store in Kemmerer, Wyoming and by 1907 he bought Thomas and Guy out of their stores.
