Rockwell Station
About 1800 feet due west prominent on the Overland Stage and Pony Express Route 1858 to 1868 kept by Orrin Porter Rockwell.
Note: The westbound Pony Express riders proceeded south along today’s State Street to the next station south of the Utah State Prison. This was at Orrin Porter Rockwell’s Hot Springs Brewery Hotel—a popular stopping point for travelers. Rockwell kept the station on the Pony Express route from 1858–1868. A stone monument was constructed from stone from the old station and was found at the southeast corner of the prison compound, until it was moved when the new Freeway was built.
This historic marker was located at N 40.48602 W 111.90039 from the time I first found it (2002 I believe) until I around 2018-19 when it was removed, I didn’t know where they moved it to until 2020 when a friend mentioned they saw it 1/4″ mile west of the original location, now at N 40.48579 W 111.90532. The new location is most of the way to the actual location of the Station, the marker was about 0.35 miles east of the real location and is now about 0.10 miles east of it.
