The first two families to settle Anabella in 1871 were those of Henry Dalton, a member of the Mormon Battalion, and Joseph Powell. The first name given to the settlement was Omni Point, and Richfield was called Omni. The “Point” was a high rise in the terrain, five miles directly south of Richfield. The town name was later changed to Annabella, after two of the first two children born in the area: Ann S. Roberts and Isabella Dalton.
