Excerpt from our family journals about the Ioka Chapel being built.
“Eventually a church was built in Ioka, only about a mile south of Frank and Mary’s home. Once again Frank and Mary’s father were the first to begin hauling rock for the new building. Frank and Ralph Miles freighted the doors and windows for the new building from Price. This was all donation labor. Frank and Fuller and John Angus were the highest donors both in money and labor to the construction of the chapel. After the building was completed dances were often held and the entire community would attend. Frank and Mary, Fuller and Teen, John and Bertha Angus and their older children would all go in the wagon with Frank and Fuller singing at the top of their voices. That church still stands about two miles west of Highway 40 on the Ioka Road. (1986) Mary’s father, John Angus, was Bishop of the ward at that time.
For a time school was held in the church buildings, but eventually a school house was constructed.”
