Panguitch Stake of the L.D.S. Church was organized in 1877 with James Henrie as President. In March, 1880, plans were made for a stake house with George Dodds, architect, and M.M. Steel, Sr., chairman of the building. The following men were prominent in its erection: Fredrick Judd, Samuel Worthen & Sons, W.R. Riggs, Alfred Riding, W.P. Sargent, John F. Sevy and John W. Norton. The building served the community until July, 1949, when it was condemned and torn down.
I really appreciate being able to read about all this. THANK YOU so much for doing this. I was just wondering, up above, where you have written : James Henrie as President. In March, 1880, plans were made for a stake house with George Dobbs, architect, and M.M. Steel, Sr., Could that have supposed to been George Dodds rather than George Dobbs? Thank you for this post about Panguitch. I came from the James Henrie line. You mentioned M.M. Steel, Sr. here. Is the M.M. initials for Mahonri Moriancumer? If so this name is also on my family tree. Thanks again. Kim Smith from Bountiful.
Kim Smith, James Henrie is my great-grandfather. George Dodds is also my great-grandfather. Maybe it is just a coincident that there was also a George Dobbs there at that time. My great-grandpa George Dodds was a math teacher.
