Top Spot Drive Inn
650 South Main Street in Cedar City, Utah

The Top Spot Cafe and Gas Station originally owned by LaNoir and Bertha Jones, was built c. 1965 on the south end of Main Street in Cedar City. It’s locally famous for having a fiberglass cow sculpture that sits on its zig zag roof to advertise the Top Spot restaurant. They advertised the cow sculpture in the local papers as far back as 1965, saying to ‘look for the cow on the roof’ at Top Spot. A previous owner, Craig Barton, reported that the cow had been stolen many times as a prank over the years.*

The Thunderbird opened in 1940, making it one of Utah’s oldest restaurants that is still around. The sign outside this family-owned restaurant advertises “ho-made” pies because the first owner, Ed Myers, couldn’t find a board big enough to write out the whole word. Now his grandson operates the restaurant.

I love the cool vintage neon sign.
