Granite Furniture here in Sugarhouse, Salt Lake City, Utah opened in 1910. They had this cool rotating vintage neon sign put in later – I heard it was in the 1960’s.
Granite Furniture closed in 2004 and later it was converted into other businesses and thankfully they’ve kept the unique sign, just painted in new colors and updated.

For nearly 90 years eating at Dee’s has been a family tradition. Dee Anderson, a farm boy from Ephraim, came to Salt Lake City in 1924 with little more than the desire and determination to be in the restaurant business. In 1931, Dee borrowed $35, bought meat, pickles, and buns and began offering Utah citizens their first five-cent hamburger. Dee’s nine-stool hamburger stands sprang up around the city and were recognized as centers of hospitality.
During the golden era known as “the Fifties”, Dee introduced Utah to the high volume drive-in. All during this time, Dee expanded and refined the family restaurant concept to provide comfortable and clean surroundings accompanied with the finest quality food at an affordable price. Mr. Dee Anderson (1905-1997) passed away after celebrating 70 years of marriage and a lifetime of service in the restaurant community. Dee’s Family Restaurants are still locally owned and operated by JML Restaurants and are committed to maintain the same standard of excellence you have come to expect.
Movie scenes filmed here:
Dee’s was known for the iconic clown on the buildings, I found these two photos (below) online here and here.

There are few Dee’s locations left, and the only one that still has a clown (the weather vane on the roof) and a vintage neon rotating sign is the location at 700 E 2100 S in Salt Lake.

One of the sights I love on Main Street SLC is the McKay Diamonds sign, a very cool vintage looking neon sign.
They opened in 1949.
See other buildings on Salt Lake’s Main Street on this page.

Bowling Alleys, Neon Signs, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, South Salt Lake City, utah, Vintage Signs
Located at 2265 South State Street in South Salt Lake City, Utah – The AMF Ritz Classic Lanes 90 foot tall vintage neon bowling pin has been a favorite sight for a long time.
The center section would rotate and one side said “BOWLING” while the other said “CLASSIC”.
The bowling alley was replaced with an apartment building and thankfully they replaced the sign with one very similar in 2017.

Had you visited the Silver Spur Motel in Durango, Colorado and asked for room #5, you would have stayed in the room John Wayne preferred while filming some of his most famous western films such as How the West Was Won and The Cowboys. This classic sign, circa 1962, was saved for you to enjoy here at Hole ‘n the Rock in Utah.

I love all the old vintage motels I see around Utah, along with their cool vintage signs. In the 50’s and 60’s the idea of going on a road trip really took off and these classic roadside motels were popping up everywhere, they went through stages of auto courts (motel rooms often with a garage for the car), motels, motor lodges and more.
I decided to start keeping a list of them and that is what this page will be for.
