United States Post Office
Constructed in 1892, this was the first federal building in San Jose. It served as U.S. Post Office from 1892 to 1933. Designed by Willoughby Edbrooke and constructed of locally quarried sandstone, this Romanesque style structure, built by the United States government, it the last of its kind on the west coast.
California Registered Historical Landmark No. 854
Plaque placed by the State Department of Parks and Recreation in cooperation with the Fine Arts Gallery Association, San Jose Historic Lankmarks Commission, and the San Jose Historical Museum.

Santa Clara Relief Society House
Completed in 1908, the Santa Clara Relief Society House is significant as the oldest remaining LDS church building in this pioneer community. Some of the functions of the Relief Society (the women’s auxiliary organization of the Mormon church) continued in this historic hall until completion of the adjacent LDS meetinghouse in 1949. It also served as a school (1908-1913), a makeshift clinic (1939-1950s), and the local post office (1953-1963).
The Victorian Eclectic style Santa Clara Relief Society House is also architecturally significant in the community. While not built as a meetinghouse, it is similar in size, configuration, and use to other “settlement phase” LDS meetinghouses. In 1992 during work to repair and restore the building, it was damaged by an earthquake. Its previously coated brick exterior was reinforced and covered with stucco. It has since been restored through local community efforts to serve as a museum of Relief Society and pioneer memorabilia and a meeting hall.

Kahn Brothers Grocery Building – Built in 1901.
Aaron Keyser constructed this building in 1901 and leased it to Emmanuel Kahn for his grocery business. Kahn was among the first Jewish settlers in Utah. In 1913, the Kahn Grocery Company moved to a new location and the N. O. Nelson Manufacturing Company occupied the building. This company remained here until its new warehouse at 380 West 200 South was complete in 1923. Keyser then leased the building to the federal government for use as a post office. The Kahn Brothers Grocery Building retains its original storefront window and entrance design. Look for the group of give small arched windows on either side of the facade.

In my exploring I’d have to say the smallest post office I’ve come across is the one in Leamington, Utah. Axtell, Utah was pretty close but this one beats it.

Eureka Post Office
The Eureka Post Office was constructed in 1922 by the United States Government for the commercial center of the Tintic Mining District. James A. Wetmore served as “Acting Supervisory Architect.” The structure represents the only example of the Spanish Colonial Revival style in the Tintic area. It continues to serve its original function. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places on March 14, 1979.

Old Eureka Post Office
Built circa 1894, this building served as the town post office until 1922, when a new post office building was constructed. In 1926 a merchandising company known as “Everybody’s” occupied the building. It is a good example of the commercial architecture in Eureka and is one of at least three commercial buildings in town that are of similar size, constructed of stone, and have brick facades.

United States Post Office – Springville Main

The U.S. Post Office-Springville Main at 309 S. Main in Springville, Utah was built in 1941. It was built in Colonial Revival style and credited to supervising architect Louis A. Simon. It has also been known as Springville Main Post Office. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
